Friends of St. Thomas à Becket Church, Huntington

Launches a World Première.

On Mid-Summer’s Eve, June 19th, the little church of St. Thomas a Becket, Huntington, was filled to overflowing.  The many Friends and visitors came to the climax of the 2015 events, as the annual concert took place.

Musical polymath, school-master, pianist, organist, conductor, director of music and above all, composer, John Madden from Newchurch, organised a concert none of the concert-goers will forget.  He introduced two superb singers, Jess and Evie Price from Brilley, who are former members of the Hereford Cathedral Choir, Cantabile and former Eisteddfod winners.  Although still very young, these young women filled the church with their superbly powerful and blended voices, in arias by Bach, Mendelssohn, Handel and Gluck.

The finale  was the first performance of a specially composed piece by John Madden for The Friends, called, ‘The Seasons Psalter’, depicting the months of the year, sung by Jess and Evie Price to great acclaim.  It was a great honour that the first performance should take place here.

The evening concluded with a large party held in the garden of Huntington Court, with wine and canapés served well into the evening, most kindly donated by ladies of the village.
